Picnic-Style Wedding in Kentucky
If you didn’t know, Nich is originally from Kentucky. Last October we drove the 15 hours across the country to photograph one of his friend’s wedding day! The drive was long, and Nich did all of the driving because I’m not a good driver (allegedly). It was so great for him to be home for the first time in 4 years. We saw some of his old friends, drank some bourbon slushies as you do in KY, and visited some of his favorite food spots and old stomping grounds. But the best part? We forgot how GORGEOUS the Midwest is in the fall!! The colors were really popping off and as we were driving into Kentucky, we started to get really excited for this outdoor wedding.
Brayton & Alex really had the most beautiful fall wedding day in the Bernheim Forest. The sun was out, the colors were vibrant, the leaves were falling, the water was glistening. It was pleasantly warm but still smelled like autumn. The ceremony was picnic-style and I just think that’s the cutest thing ever; they provided a basket of blankets for guests to use. They both wore vans; Alex had white ones and Brayton had black ones which was super rad. Their dog, Alaska was the ring bearer (they put the rings on her collar), and Brayton’s grandfather officiated.
The night got a little wild and ended with many kegs stands out in the field. Even Alex’s mom did one!! They had a BBQ food truck out back for dinner, and they cut their cake with a sword. This day was so fun and we’re so grateful that they asked us capture it for them. To not only be there and witness, but to make art out of it is the BEST feeling and the reason we do what we do.
