Colorado Backcountry Elopement in Buena Vista

Cassie & Derrick eloped in the Colorado backcountry this summer!! We hiked 10 miles, starting in the early morning to get to the lake where they would exchange their vows. We occupied ourselves by talking about fantasy books and looking for cute mushrooms along the trail. They wanted to have an adventure together, not just an ‘easy’ elopement day!

Once we got to the lake, we had the whole place to ourselves! This is one of our favorite hikes in all of Colorado, and it’s not very well known. The lake is very intimate and makes you feel like you’re truly out in the middle of the mountains all alone. They got changed into their elopement attire, and as soon as they began their first look a classic Colorado summer storm rolled in over the mountain peaks. It was absolutely pouring rain as they exchanged vows and had their first kiss - a VERY romantic and memorable moment! Cassie & Derrick really embraced the unpredictable weather, and it was an experience I’m sure they will never forget. Don’t these photos make you want to get married in the rain!?

After our hiking adventure we headed to their airbnb for a few photos with their pups and a cute little cake cutting. Their dogs signed their marriage certificate!
